Learn the fundamentals of rock climbing including safety equipment (harness, helmet, belay device) and climbing commands. Students challenge themselves on one of many routes including the Tornado, Overhang and the Burrito and may practice their knot tying abilities.
Students learn Olympic target style archery including several types of bows, safety equipment and line procedures. All students are given a chance to hit a bulls-eye.
Students will discuss the benefits of shelter in a survival situation. Focusing on insulation and structure, students will work in teams to create their own structure.
Students will learn about fire safety, primitive and modern methods of fire building. Working in small groups, students have the opportunity to practice their new skills.
Students learn the basics of the compass and pacing, and then test their knowledge and skills on the compass course.
Students learn the four laws of survival, make an action plan for survival situations and assemble their own survival kit.
In this outdoor recreational activity, students will be trained how to use GPS receivers to navigate and hunt for hidden containers called ‘geocaches’. Students will practice navigation techniques while enjoying the thrill of a treasure hunt.
