Mission

Cedar Springs’ Outdoor Education program exists to connect students with their environment through positive hands-on experience in the outdoors.

Beliefs

Through hands-on exploration and guided discovery, students will begin to recognize the wonders of nature and how human life impacts the natural world.  By stressing fundamental skills and an appreciation for outdoor recreation, we strive to help students develop positive and healthy life-choices

Objectives:

Through our program we:

1.  Provide students with unique outdoor learning experiences

2.  Create an atmosphere where students are able to develop interpersonal skills through group activities and group living skills

3.  Encourage students to actively participate in outdoor activities

4.  Model methods of sustainability and conservation of natural resources at the camp that they can apply to their own lives

Programs

We offer two, three and four-day programs as well as one-day field trips.  All classes are 50 minutes in length with a 10-minute transition time between classes.  Depending upon the size of the group and the length of stay, schools choose from a variety of classes that range from environmental education, outdoor living skills and team concepts.  All meals are provided, with the exception of the first day when the students bring a sack lunch for their first meal.  Snacks are also provided for all programs. If the school chooses to include the overnight option, students will have the opportunity to engage in our evening activities that may include night games, singing around the campfire, guest speakers and/or night hikes.

Learning Groups

In order to meet objectives while providing optimum hands-on experience for the students, we keep our learning groups to 20 students or less.  Evening activities are designed to include all campers.  If you have questions about learning contact the outdoor education department.

Class Instruction & Staff

Cedar Springs trained and experienced staff will be teaching programmed outdoor education classes.  Each group will provide cabin leaders to interact with the students and to assist Cedar Springs Staff with class instructions.
